Open Systems With introduction of OpenMVS, the IBM mainframe has become an excellent network resource. New mainframe connectivity features such as TCP/IP, DCE and a host of middleware options has brought the mainframe full circle. Just having the knowledge that a desktop application can easily access CICS tasks and DB2 Database tables expands the scope of every project. Now there is no need to rewrite legacy systems or to convert to client/server. The mainframe is just another node on the network.
