Project Management

Synectics has had benefit of developing state-of-the-art systems on all major technology platforms currently in use. Our methodology derives from an invaluable reserve of cumulative experience.

In order to control the production of a system and its deliverables, Synectics uses industry-standard techniques for systems development such as the James Martin Information Engineering Systems Model, Warnier-Orr Diagramming, Process Decomposition Modeling and Decision Tree Mapping. We incorporate, where appropriate, human-computer interaction techniques and object-oriented methodologies.

Synectics routinely utilizes industry-standard project management techniques, including Gantt Charting, Pert Charting and Detailed Resource Usage Spreadsheets. These methods are typically employed in conjunction with Project Workbench or Microsoft Project to assist in controlling the work process.

Project Management Today
In many ways, project management is ever changing, but in other ways it will always remain the same! Today, project managers are the team coach providing inspiration and guidance. They are usually the line managers, conducting employee reviews and selecting consultants. Project managers also provide the overall technical design and framework for an application. Many times a project manager is the business analyst for the project. Duties may include laying out the project time line, identifying tasks and allocating resources - a very difficult job in today's multi-platform environment.

Synectics has a unique approach to project management. Understanding the diverse nature of project management in today's information age, Synectics' project managers have the experience, people skills and technical know-how to successfully lead our clients' projects.

Technical Management
Synectics recognizes that technical workers are unique, and managing technical workers is often a challenge for project managers. Technical employees require a unique workplace and the coaching necessary to motivate and stimulate them. Synectics understands the need to treat technical workers as creative workers.

Synectics' project managers have proven to be efficient and successful at managing technical personnel.

System Architecture
System Architecture is a very important function that is sometimes overlooked. The responsibility for the overall framework of a new business application can be overwhelming. Should the application be designed for network computing? Should it reside on the mainframe? Should it be Internet based? What database repository should be selected? Whether setting up a small workgroup or an enterprise-wide system, these are the questions every system architect must answer.

Synectics' project managers and system architects are well versed in building both enterprise-wide and workgroup applications. They have experience working with multiple computer platforms and providing sound architecture and design judgment.

Task Management
Task management is the primary function performed by project managers. In many ways, identifying system requirements and listing them in a project planning software package or on paper is a very objective task to perform. In other ways, it is a very subjective task. It can be very difficult to allocate resources and time frames early in a project plan before resources are even identified or selected.

Once the project has begun, maintaining project focus becomes the primary function of the manager. The manager's ability to balance user's new requirements and user's technology challenges contributes to the success of all projects.

Synectics' project managers are seasoned in preparing project plans are excellent at maintaining focus throughout a project.
