Will provide support essential to the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) department deliverables with responsibilities and activities associated with programs associated with contractor, construction and project safety
Supports site projects undertaken by WRD, and GWS, working with all managers, EHS SMEs, general contractors/construction managers, contractors, subcontractors and other suppliers.
Provides technical EHS assistance to applicable line and project management in planning and executing safe construction, contractor and maintenance activities.
Independently evaluates project plans and operations to determine compliance with site, corporate, and governmental EHS standards and regulations.
Represents site EHS on projects being managed by other groups, including participation in project EHS reviews, design reviews, bid walks, project team meetings, project safety inspections, audits, and other construction and project-related safety support activities.
Reviews and provides feedback on contractor risk assessments and work plans, including review of Job Safety Analyses or equivalent.
Develops and delivers classroom and small group training on various accident prevention topics and related site risk management programs.
Models and reinforces safe work practices.
Reviews contractor health and safety plans and field execution of plans.
Conducts documented review/inspection of project activities weekly.
Recognizes hazards and initiates corrective action.
Reinforces and ensures compliance with site Work at Heights/Ladder Last and Fall Protection programs.
Reviews crane/lift plans and reinforces site Crane Safety program.
Reviews excavation safety plans and reinforces site Excavation Safety program.
Supports and reinforces site EHS programs, such as Risk Assessment, PPE, Hot Work Permit, Lockout Tagout, Line Breaking, Electrical Safety, Asbestos, Waste Management, etc.
Provide broad scope support as needed to assignments associated with EHS objectives.
Support implementation of the Safety Permit-to-Work program, providing guidance to Permit Issuers
Actively participate in the site Contractor Safety Committee
General responsibility in monitoring and reporting status of action items related to core responsibilities.
Maintain records of training consistent with site requirements.
Some office work will be performed, including preparation of field notes, inspections, audits, etc.
Bachelor’s Degree in Safety or related field
Minimum of 5 years in safety field required
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills required
Ability to make judgement
Acts with integrity and credibility
Knowledge of fall protection requirements, crane safety, excavation safety, hot work, electrical safety, lockout tagout in a process environment
Experience working in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) at a site or corporate level preferred
